Dynamic Drive

About.com Rating twohalf out of Five

By Stephen Chapman, About.com

The Bottom Line

This is a reasonable resource for DHTML scripts that will run on modern browsers although the scripts are not as efficiently written as they could have been as the standard DOM support has been added to the existing code instead of the code being specifically written for this DOM.
Pros
  • Most scripts support modern browsers
  • Scripts labelled to indicate level of support
Cons
  • Scripts originally written for IE4 and Netscape 4
  • Only some scripts patched to use Standard DOM
  • Even patched scripts are still mainly oriented toward version 4 browsers

Description

  • Prebuilt DHTML Scripts
  • Available to copy
  • Conditions of use spelled out
  • Large variety of different scripts

Guide Review - Dynamic Drive

Dynamic Drive is a DHTML script library containing a wide variety of scripts that perform a range of dynamic functions.

The selection of scripts includes some contributed by other visitors which are clearly marked. Each script is also clearly marked to indicate which browsers that it will run in, NS4 indicating that it supports Netscape 4 and ALL indicating that it supports the "all" DOM of Internet Explorer 4. Scripts that have been patched to support the standard DOM used by all version 5+ browsers are indicated by NS6.

Most scripts provide a sample on the site itself so that you can see for yourself how the script functions before you download it to use on your own site.
