Hot Scripts is not just a Javascript resource, they also have similar sections dealing with a number of other programming languages. This review is just considering the Javascript section of the site.
This script library differs from many of the others in several ways. The scripts that are listed are not hosted on the site but instead are just inks to the owners web site and you need to go there to obtain the script. Also unlike many other such libraries, listing a script is not free, the owners of the script have to pay for their listing.
As a result of these differences the overall quality of the scripts to be found here are on average higher than on some of the other script libraries. Sure there are still some poorly written scripts that don't work properly and some that claim to do things that can't be done (such as the extremely common and completely useless "no right click" script). There are still lots of scripts listed that were designed for version 4 browsers and haven't been properly updated. There are also lots of professionally written sophisticated scripts that perform all sorts of interesting and useful functions.
Unfortunately not all of the scripts listed are free. Some you have to pay for if you want them. Many of these are actually script generators that run on their web site to dynamically create your custom script for you once you have purchased access.
