Javascript Source

About.com Rating two out of Five

By Stephen Chapman, About.com

The Bottom Line

This is a huge resource for javascripts but you need to be very selective of which categories of scripts you use since many of them are designed for version 4 browsers and have not been updated to support modern browsers.
Pros
  • A huge selection of scripts
  • Scripts cover a wide range of topics
Cons
  • Most scripts originally written for IE4 and Netscape 4
  • Only some scripts patched to use Standard DOM
  • Most scripts have not been patched to support version 5+ browsers

Description

  • Prebuilt Javacripts
  • Available to copy
  • Conditions of use spelled out
  • Large variety of different scripts

Guide Review - Javascript Source

Javascript Source is one of the biggest sources for pre-built Javascripts that is available on the web.

The scripts available in the library have been provided by a lot of different people over a long period of time. Over that time the Javascript support in web browsers has changed but many of the older scripts in this library have not been updated with the necessary changes to support modern version 5+ browsers.

The huge range of different scripts available in this library means that there are quite a few good quality scripts in the library but distinguishing between these and the many poorly written scripts that can also be found in the library will not be easy for many pre-built script users who do not really understand Javascript.
